Good news for the students from North Eastern Region (NER), pursuing higher education. The online application for Ishan Uday Scholarship 2025 has been started and will ends on 31st October, 2025.

The Ishan Uday Scholarship Scheme is an initiative of University Grants Commission (UGC) which is aims to support students from economically weaker sections in states of Northeast – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Tripura. What is the Ishan Uday Scholarship?

The Ishan Uday Scholarship is a UGC-backed scheme aimed to providing financial assistance to the students pursuing higher education in the Northeast. Every year, 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded to students pursuing general degree courses, technical programs, or professional courses like medical and paramedical studies.

The scholarship offers:

  • ₹5,400 per month for general degree courses.
  • ₹7,800 per month for technical, medical, or paramedical courses.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Ishan Uday Scholarship 2025, you need to meet the following criteria:

  • Educational Institutes: You must be enrolled in a first-year undergraduate (UG) program at:
    • Universities/Colleges/Institutes under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, with valid NAAC accreditation.
    • Deemed Universities under Section 3 of the UGC Act with NAAC accreditation.
    • Institutes of National Importance or recognized by statutory councils.
  • Courses: Eligible programs include general degree courses, technical, professional, medical, or paramedical courses. For integrated or dual-degree programs, only the UG component is covered.
  • Mode of Study: You must be pursuing a regular/full-time UG program. Open, distance, correspondence, private, or part-time courses are not eligible.
  • Family Income: Your parents’ annual income should not exceed ₹4.5 lakh.
  • Domicile: You must have a valid domicile certificate from one of the NER states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, or Tripura).
  • First-Year Students: Only students admitted to a UG program in the 2025-26 academic year are eligible.

Who’s Not Eligible?

  • Students pursuing courses through Open Universities.
  • Those already receiving another scholarship for their UG program.
  • Students admitted via management quota.
  • Those enrolled in diploma courses that don’t lead to a degree.
  • Students whose parents’ income exceeds ₹4.5 lakh annually.

How to Apply for the Ishan Uday Scholarship

Interested and eligible candidates from Northeast may apply online at National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Students may follow the below mentioned steps to apply online:

  1. Visit the NSP: Go to the NSP official website scholarships.gov.in.
  2. One-Time Registration (OTR): Click on the “One-Time Registration” link and enter your details, including your Aadhaar or Aadhaar Enrollment ID. This generates a unique 14-digit OTR number, which simplifies future applications throughout your academic career.
  3. Log In: Use your OTR credentials to log in and access the online application form.
  4. Fill in Details: Provide all required information, including personal, academic, and financial details.
  5. Upload Documents: Submit necessary documents like your domicile certificate, income certificate, and proof of admission.
  6. Submit and Save: Double-check your application, hit “Submit,” and take a printout of the submitted form for your records.

Selection Process

The selection for the Ishan Uday Scholarship is fair and transparent:

  • 10,000 fresh scholarships are awarded annually.
  • Slots are distributed based on the population of each NER state (as per the last census).
  • If slots remain vacant in one state due to a lack of eligible candidates, they are redistributed equitably among other NER states.
  • Persons with Disabilities (PwD) are reserved slots as per Government of India norms.
